As part of efforts towards building a stronger Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Ika North East Local Government Area Chairman of the party, Hon. Chuks Agboma has sets up 11-man reconciliation committee to meet aggrieved members.
The members of the reconciliation committee include, Hon. Stephen Eghen, Chairman, Hon. Princewill Onuodafin, Secretary, Hon. Joshua Nwachokor, Hon. Charles Okwuokenye, Cyril Nosogbe, Chief S.I Agidi, Mr. Goodness Morka, Chief Mrs. Mary Agbogwe, Hon. Sunday Iheme, Mrs. Veronica Ijeh and Mrs. Ekene Egbuchinem.
Hon. Agboma while inaugurating the reconciliation committee members led by Hon. Stephen Eghen during an enlarge meeting of the party held at its new secretariat behind Penile Academy in Boji-Boji, Owa, said the party umbrella is large to accommodate everyone.
According to him, “We are reforming the PDP and we must all work together to rebuild our great party. To begin, the new leadership of the party has set up 11-man reconciliation committee to meet with the aggrieved members of the party and solicits with them to return for good.
“We will not allow anyone to leave the party; everybody must join hands in this mission to continue to talk to those who are aggrieved to see the need to come back. It is a new dawn where peace and unity will reign.
“We will operate an open door policy that would seek the views of members before taking any decision. Sincerely, no doubt many of our members are aggrieved especially for lack of political recognition despite their all efforts made for the progress of the party. But I am of the optimism that the reconciliation committee would bring back all aggrieved members back to the fold.
“It is a promise that the new leadership of the party will make sure that henceforth hard work of members is been rewarded. Therefore, I am using this opportunity to appeal to leaders and members to return to their wards and units to commence work for the party, but firstly peace talk with the aggrieved members.
“We should all let go our pride as there is nothing greater than peace and unity. Let’s reconcile our differences in order to have a stronger and united PDP. Despite our individual personality, in politics we need each other to grow and succeed”, he said.
Continuing, Hon. Agboma charged the various Ward leaders to double their efforts in order to advance the lot of the party. He further enjoined them to be close to their people, encourage and support them; saying that in his time everyone’s good work will speak for him or her in the time of need.
Also on the forthcoming local government election, the Chairman said since there is no timetable for the election that any form of campaigns going on should stop so as not to heat up polity, while calling on party faithful to join hands with his led executive to build the party and enjoy the benefits.
Responding, the member representing Ika North East in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Anthony Elekeokwuri said he has aligned with Agboma’s speech and urged ward leaders to always hold meetings to chat a way forward for the party. He further admonished the party faithful on the need to refrain from campaigning for anybody for the 2023 general election; but rather they should wait until their leader, His Excellency Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, the Delta State Governor gives directive in order for them not to be misled.
The Commissioner for Information Delta State, Mr. Charles Aniagwu and Director-General Delta State Orientation Bureau, Barr. Azuka Eugene Uzum respectively harped on the need to shun Ika North and East dichotomy and the proper measures of giving empowerment as way forward for the party.
Some of the party members who bare their minds frowned that regardless of their progressive efforts made in the party that there is no benefit to show for it, lamenting that individuals who are benefiting move from one appointment to another.
The well attended meeting had the presence of the Executive Chairman, Ika North East Local Government Area Council, Hon. Barr. Victor Ebonka and deputy, Hon. Mrs. Collina Anazie, the LGA legislative arm led by its leader, Hon. Morris Nwadibie, appointees, party stakeholders and wards representatives. Also not left out was the party LGA Education Secretary, Hon. Christopher Ekamagule and LGA party Secretary, Hon. Stephen Chiadika, amongst others.
