Without any court or town planning order, Alankay demolished my store—-Chief Samuel Okunwa
Chief Samuel Okunwa,an astute politician and barrister in equity, residing at No. 83 Efeizomor Street, Boji Boji, Owa, has expressed sadness over a malicious damage done to his store by the Chairman, Ika North East Local Government, Hon(Barr) Victor Ebonka, also known as, Alankay.
According to Chief Okunwa, “On the 28 of April, 2020, I was in my house when Hon. Victor Ebonka(Alankay) and his boys including, his police escort came to my store which I have built with my money and rented out to food vendors. They went behind my house and pulled down the entire store.” The painful aspects of it was that there was no order from the court or Town Planning office before he carried out his action.
Okunwa described the actions of the Ika North East Council Chairman as illegal, unlawful and vindictive.
“I have been provoked by Ebonka’s action, if I have revolted I know I would have been backed by law because Ebonka provoked me. According to the law, I have right of owning a property as enshrined by the Nigerian constitution and also have right of fair hearing. If I have wronged the Ebonka or the Ika North East Council, they would have gotten order from a legal adviser or go to court to get redress. I have seen their action as an attacked on my personality being a Chief and a member of a political party. He challenged me and carried out what is called jungle justice. He has no authority under the law to do what he did on my structure. The store and the land belong to me, the survey of the building plan is with me. The Ika North East Council Chairman has no right, it is only Town Planning office that has the right for such demolition act. I am an intending lawyer, a barrister in equity.I am demanding #10million from the Ika North East Council for the malicious damage on my property.I spend a lot of money to build the store that was demolished. I am going on a civil suit to challenge the illegal damage on my property”.
