Following the approval of the establishment of Alihame Mixed Secondary School, Alihame by the Delta State Government on September, 23,2020, the school was officially commissioned and handed over to Alihame Community, Agbor.

The epoch occasion was held on Tuesday, November 17,2020 at Erigbe Primary School in the Community and it had in attendance some notable personalities amongst whom are, the Commissioner for primary and basic education, Hon. Patrick Ukah, ably represented by the Director of Quality Policies Assurance, CIE Ernest Ossai, the Director of Post Primary Education, Agbor Zone, Mrs Chika Fredrick, Elders of Alihame Community, Chief Inspector of Education, Ika South, Mr. E.O Eze, the immediate past Ika South Council Chairman, Hon Fred Ofume, Prof. Mike Osiele and a host of others.
The pioneer teachers are of the new secondary School are: Mrs Amaiwe G.E(Principal), Mrs Unoka J.O, Mrs Onwuka F.U, Mrs Ayare P and Mrs Momodu H. N.
While welcoming the gathering, the Alihame Community Secretary, Mr. Jacob Nwadozie who spoke on behalf of the community expressed gratitude to Government for deeming it fit to honour them with a Secondary School.
According to him, “I welcome you all to this epoch making event of the presentation of certificate of establishment of Alihame Mixed Secondary School, Alihame to Alihame Community.
The secondary School is a dream come true, as we have been longing to have a government owned secondary School in Alihame so as to reduce the problems encountered by our children in acquiring secondary education. We are very grateful to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for this accomplishment and we are fully in support of his government.
“Alihame is a peace-loving, hospitable and accommodating Community. We have a great love for education and development. The community hosts several government offices and institutions. The establishment of Alihame Mixed Secondary School is an addition to the number of government institutions in Alihame. We will assist the Delta State Government with our ability to see that the secondary School takes off operations smoothly.
We wish to appeal to government to send more male teachers to the school. Government should urgently send security guards to the school to guide the school facilities”.
The Principal of the newly elected secondary school, Mrs G.E Amaiwe welcomed everyone to the school, saying that history was made this day. Being the first principal of the school, she promised to cooperate with her staff, so as to carry out their responsibilities effectively.
She appealed to the government to send teachers to the school and equip the school with facilities, so as to enable them to carry out their duties smoothly.
In the same vein, Director of Post Primary Education Board, Agbor Zone, Mrs. Chika Fredrick thanked everyone for giving them a warm welcome. She charged all the teachers to put in their best to ensure that the school is the best in the state and country at large. She said that they will deploy teachers to the school, as soon as possible. She appealed to members of the community to send their children to the school to ensure smooth running of teaching and learning processes in the school.
On his part, Chief Inspector of Education,Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, Mr. E.O Eze maintained that civil service is a continuous service. He appreciated the community for their cooperation.
He thanked Secretary to the Delta State Government, Hon. Barr. Chiedu Ebie and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for approving the establishment of the school. He noted that a lot of sacrifice will be made to make it a centre of excellence, urging that the community should help to look after the school through their Vigilante Group, so that the school properties will not be vandalized.
Similarly, the Director of Quality Policies Assurance, Mr. Ernest Ossai who represented the Commissioner for Primary and Basic Education, Delta State averred that SSG, Hon. Barr. Chiedu Ebie is instrumental to the establishment of the school.
In his words, ” today, we have fulfilled our promises. You may not have to wait for the release of result, before the school will kick off their process. Government can create enabling environment for you but they will not administer if for you. If you make the school repulsive, the students will leave but if you make it child friendly school, they will stay.
In no distant time, government will recruit teachers and we will definitely post them here”.
