Alihame Inwan Community, in Alihame, Agbor, headquarters of Ika South Local Government, has cried out to the Delta State Government for help as ravaging flood have continued to threaten the existence of the community. Inwa Community, one of the communities that make up Alihame is currently, at the mercy of ravaging flood any time there is a heavy down pour owing to the faulty nature of the ongoing drainage work that passes through the community.
Speaking to the press, the eldest man in Inwan Community, Chief Stephen Odiye Etuonu, expressed sadness over the poor state of the Inwan axis of Alihame/Sakponba Road, noting that the ugly development was caused by the ongoing drainage project that passes through the community.
He disclosed that the drainage project which was planned to accommodate waters from Agbor-Nta, Aliagwai, Aliokpu, Ewuru and Alihame, empty the waters at Inwan Community, a development that has sent fears and panic to the community as the people are not prepared to lose their lives and properties. The community leader while stating that they are grateful to the Delta State Government for approving the construction of the road begged that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa should call the contractor to order as his community will tolerate or welcome any shoddy job that will put their lives and buildings in jeopardy.
Speaking in the same vein, the Secretary of Inwan Community, Mr. Paul Miti Anwule stated that his Community is happy and grateful to the state government for approving the tarring of the Alihame/Sakponba Road but, “our demand is that the road should have double drainage and channeled to the river instead of Inwan Community.”
He further said, “I met with a man called Ayo, who introduced himself as the site engineer three months ago. I complained to him about the situation we are suffering from and he said he cannot handle it as he was asked by the authority he is working under to focus on his job at the site. For the past three months that we complained to him, he has not come back with any response. We are now left to suffer our own fate. At the moment, Inwan Community is the empty ground for the flood from Agbor-Nta, Aliagwai, Aliokpu, Ewuru and Board Road area in Alihame. The tunnel at Aliokpu that was used to channel the flood to the river area has been blocked. We are therefore appealing to the Delta State Government to come to our rescue before flood will take over our buildings and farm land.
The community used the opportunity to congratulate Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as he celebrates his birthday on July 8, 2020.They wished him well in his current health status, that of his wife and daughter.
