Residents of Ali-Iweriokpuru, Ute-Enugu Community in Ute-Ukpo,Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State have lamented the bad state of the major road in the area.
The Okpara-Uku of the Community, Pa Bayem Cypril told our correspondent that the bad state of the road was affecting business activities in the area and making movements unbearable.
When our correspondent visited the community, it was observed that some portions of the road were covered by weeds and flood water, thereby, making it inaccessible for vehicles.
Residents and business owners in the area accused the state government of abandoning the community.
The Okibali of the Community, Comrade Ikemuka Ogadi said the road has been in a bad State for over ten years, adding that promises by past governors of the state to fix it were not fulfilled.
He said, “The road has gone worse over the years and the situation has affected our community greatly and the rain has not made it any easier. Past governors of the state promised to fix the road but none of them fulfilled their promises. We have schools and businesses in the area that have been badly affected by the state of the road.
Speaking further, Pastor Benson Ehima said that teachers posted to Ali-Iweriokpuru, Ute-Enugu Community primary schools because of the bad condition of the road particularly during the raining season, and parents are withdrawing reluctant to come as children are withdrawn from the schools because of no enough teachers.
Pastor Benson Ehima who is a member of Grievance Revenge Member (GRM) said that the communities are agrarian communities while he strongly appealed to the Delta State Government led Governor Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa led Administration to handle the construction of the road leading to the communities to enable famers evacuate their farm produce as farming is the mainstay of the people in the area.
“We are tired; we want the state government to intervene. We cannot keep living like this, it is not right,” he stated.
