It was a remarkable day on August 31, 2020 as artisans in Agbor under Barbers Association held their maiden seminar.
The well attended event targeted at equipping members on the profession for better days ahead, had the resource persons which includes Comr. Ebie Clement, Mr. Hanson Pathorh and their patron, Chief Darlington Igheghe, lectured them on Personal Development, Society, the future, Barbers and human health, Security, business, family and the public respectively. It was indeed a great moment for the barbers who paid keen interest during the lectures.
Comr. Ebie Clement admonished the barbers on ways to develop themselves to enable them affect the society positively while urging them to be sincere in their dealings and more importantly, learn more skills to further improve their lives.
Mr. Hanson Pathorh who dwell on “Barbers and human health”, took the participants down the memory lane, saying that Barber which according to him, started in 6000bce was well embraced following a belief that evil spirit enters the human body through their hair.
“Barbers, in those days, were regarded as honourable and trustworthy individuals in the community. They were also made assistance to the monks,” he said.
Going forward, Mr. Pathorh called for strict use of hand sanitizers by barbers, pointing out that their hands could serve as agent of contamination as it could contain some bacteria if not washed or sanitized after barbing customers hair.
His words, “when we sterilized our clippers, we forget our hands which unknowingly to us, could contain some bacteria that can be transferred to another customer.”
Be that as it may, the erudite scholar suggested that the group should set up a taskforce on Hygiene and Sanitation to strictly enforce the barbers use of sanitizers.
On his part, the Patron of the association, Chief Darlington Igheghe, gave security tips focusing on how barbers could escaped being victimized in crimes and also giving credible Informations to security agencies.
He advised the people to be contempted with what they have, be security alert and also disassociate self from friends who are of bad influence.
Earlier in his address, the Chairman of the association, Mr. Ajuebor Ngozi, popularly known as the Masses Chairman, lauded the massive cooperation of his members and in the same vein appreciated the resource persons for honouring their invitation.
Ajuebor whose smiles light up faces like gentle sun breaking forth a dawn said that he was elated having key persons initiated the seminar which he described as inevitable.
He pointed out that the role of the association was to ensure that barbers in the society are properly coordinated and to meet with their spiritual and physical needs and the public.
He used the medium to thanked members of the public for their patronage to all barbers shops in Agbor and it’s environs while assuring the people better service.
Some of the members who spoke separately with newsmen, expressed excitement for not missing out in the seminar.
They said that they have benefited from the lectures, assuring that all they have learnt will be put into practice.
