Do you know that some of the common creatures that move around our environment are the major causes of death to human beings? Some of them kill directly through their bites; others cause major diseases to humans leading to death.
In this article, I want to show you some of the organisms that live around us that are primarily responsible for major deaths in humans.
- Snails
According to BBC.com, snails are one of the greatest killers of men. They carry flatworms which their lava (Schistosoma) attacks human beings leading to a disease called Schistosomiasis or Bilharzia, which account for over 200 thousand deaths in the world every year. Snails are natural carriers of flatworms. When some birds such as the Hawk prey on snails, they get these worms and infect some natural water like ponds with the lava of these flatworms, through their faeces that drops on this water. When human immense their legs and bodies in this infected water, the lava of these worms penetrate human skin, causing this disease called Schistosomiasis. Schistosomiasis is a disease that attacks the liver and bladder of humans, leading to fever, headache and passing of blood in the urine.
The disease is common in Africa and some parts of America. Another way of getting this disease is through eating infected snails that are not properly cooked. That is why we must properly prepare snails to ensure that all such lava of worms in them is properly exterminated. - Mosquitoes
The female anopheles mosquitos carry a parasite called plasmodium falciparum. This parasite is passed into humans through mosquito bites and it causes malaria which accounts for 750 thousand deaths every year. This disease is predominant in Africa. Other diseases caused by mosquitoes are yellow fever and dengue fever, these diseases also account for 250 thousand deaths every year. So mosquitoes are responsible for an estimated 1 million deaths every year. - Tse tse Fly
Tsetse is another small insect that bite humans causing a disease called Trypanosomiasis or sleeping sickness. This disease also account for 10 thousand deaths every year. - Snakes
Snakes are another scary organism that live around human environment. Their bites are very poisonous and may kill within some hours. However there are non venomous snakes like Python that kill by constriction. According to BBC.com, snakes are responsible for an estimated 50 thousand deaths every year. - Dogs
Dogs are regarded as man’s bestfriend because they naturally serve as pets to human beings. However, some human beings are also attacked by dogs, leading to death especially if the dog has a disease called rabbies. Dogs are responsible for an estimated 25 thousand deaths every year and this is common in Africa and India, where stray dogs that are not vaccinated against rabbies can still be found. - Human Beings
Do you know that fellow human beings are fellow killers of men?. Do you know that apart from mosquitos which are the highest killers of men, fellow human beings are the second highest killers?. Human beings kill fellow human beings through violence, poison and other things. According to Wikipedia, it is estimated that 475 thousand people are killed by fellow human beings every year.
We must all be careful with these top killers of men, if we want to live long.
