My dear brethren, without further ado, let me humbly direct you to more Scriptural passages which prove that the Law of Moses has no binding force on Christians.
Throughout the Scriptures, the Law of Moses is treated as a single entity or unit. In order to lend credence to this fact, below are some examples from the Scriptures:
(i) “…This is the ordinance of the law which the Lord commanded Moses” (Num. 31: 21);
(ii) “…As it is written in the Law of Moses… (I Kings 2: 3);
(iii) “… For the law was written through Moses… (John 1: 17);
(iv) “.. Have neglected the weightier matters of the law…” (Matthew 23: 23);
(v) “Remember the law of Moses My servant… (Malachi 4: 4);
(vi) ” Take this book of the law… “(Deut. 31: 26);
(vii) “If you do not carefully observe all the words of this law…” (Deut. 28: 58);
(viii) “So Moses wrote this law and delivered it to the priests…” (Deut. 31: 9)
(ix) “… You have caused many to stumble at the law…” (Mal. 2: 8);
(x) “Now this is the law which Moses set before the children of Israel” (Deut. 4: 44), etc.
This is an important point because if the Holy Bible or Scriptures say that the Law of Moses is cancelled or annulled, it therefore, means that tithe which was one of the fragments of the law has equally been cancelled or annulled.
Below are some Scriptural texts which prove that the Law of Moses has been annulled and that Christians serve under a new commandment:
(i) “…But now we (Christians) have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the spirit and not in the oldness of the letter.” (Rom. 7: 6);
(ii) “For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.” (Rom. 10: 4);
(iii) “… But before faith came, we were kept under the guard by the Law; therefore, the Law was our tutor to bring us to Christ… But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.” (Gal. 3: 23 – 25);
(iv) “Therefore, if perfection were through the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people received the law), what further need was there that another priest should rise according to the order of Melchizedek, and not be called according to the order of Aaron?” (Heb. 7: 11);
(v) “For the priesthood being changed, of necessity there is also a change of the law.” (Heb. 7: 12);
(vi) “For on the one hand there is annulling of the former commandment because of its weakness and unprofitableness, for the law made nothing perfect; on the other hand, there is the bringing in of better hope, through which we draw near to God.” (Heb. 7: 18);
(vii) Our Lord Jesus Christ is now the reigning High Priest because “Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with greater and better tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation.” (Heb. 9: 11);
(viii) Tithes (in whatever form) cannot possibly be paid to Jesus Christ as High Priest, because “it is evidence that our Lord Jesus Christ arose from Judah, of which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priesthood.” (Heb. 7: 14), as only “the sons of Levi, who receive the priesthood, have a commandment to receive tithes from the people, according to the law.” (Heb. 7: 5);
(ix) Then, our Lord Jesus Christ said, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you…” (John 13: 34);
(x) ” Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” (Gal. 6: 2);
(xi) “Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law.” (Rom. 13: 8). Wao!
As Christians we should be wise enough to understand that the Lord’s approach to the establishment of the new covenant with His people is never the case of hanging on or appropriating the ordinances and statues of the law of Moses.
Our Lord Jesus Christ, speaking as He often did in parables, foretold the possibility of the intermixture and misapplication of the law of Moses with God’s New covenant whereby the concocted doctrines would be taught to His people as the word of God when He said, “No one, having drunk old wine, immediately desires New: for he says, ‘The Old is better.” (Luke 5: 39). Furthermore, Jesus Christ spoke about the dire consequence of such acts by saying this; “And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine will burst the wineskins and be spilled, and the wineskins will be ruined.” (Luke 5: 37). On a final note, our Lord Jesus Christ was emphatic about the benefit of Christians serving under the new covenant when He said, “But new wine MUST be put into new wineskins, and both are preserved.” (Luke 5: 38).
Interestingly, our Lord Jesus Christ said (in John 18: 20), “I spoke openly to the world. I always taught in synagogues and in the temple, where the Jews always meet, and IN SECRET I HAVE SAID NOTHING.” Funny enough, there is no shred of scriptural evidence where our Lord Jesus Christ received tithes from His followers during His ministry on earth or ordered anyone to collect tithes (let alone, monetary tithes) from believers. Then, who introduced it to the church? Man? Yes, man did it for his bellies.
In the book of II John 9, we are told that “Anyone who does not stay with the teaching of Christ, but goes beyond it, does not have God…” Tithing in the church today is quite a novel practice to the doctrine of our Lord Jesus Christ and one cannot be out of place to describe its practice in the church as a SCAM.
Let those who have ears, hear!
