…as he inspects damages from Tuesday heavy downpour
The Member representing Ika South Constituency at the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Festus Chukwuyem Okoh, well known as, Chuky Dandy, has reiterated that building and maintenance of market(s) within his area of jurisdiction was not part of his assignments.
This, the lawmaker whom many described as a focused political icon said while fielding questions from newsmen as he inspected the aftermath of the yesterday’s (Tuesday, September 8, 2020) heavy downpour at the ongoing construction of Edike temporal market in Agbor.
The lawmaker who expressed gratitude to God that no life was lost from the incident, noted that his attention was drawn to the occurrence on Facebook, having some indigenes dragging his name to an alleged substandard job been done at the proposed market.
He cleared that while he remain committed towards rendering selfless service to the people, his office does not permit him mitigating in the day to day running of the local government council.
“One thing you must understand is that, the building of the market is not my job. The Council has her jurisdictions and so do I. Irrespective of the fact that they are under us, what we (State Assembly members) can do, is to supervise them and make corrections where necessary.
“The building or maintenance of the market is the prerogative of the council and not mine.
“I came her only to assertain the level of damage caused by the downpour which news flood the social media and could observed from the incident that a section of the market which poles were yet to be fused to the attached blocks caved in.
“However, I am most thankful to God that no life was lost as traders who have lobbied for a space in the market were yet to start trading.”
Meanwhile, Chuky Dandy who took time to inspect round the construction site, remarked that the level of work done thus far, could be considered as being okay only if the project remains as a temporary market for traders within Agbor metropolis pending when a befiting modern market is built at the CTC market as earlier explained by the executive chairman of the local government council, Hon. Barr. Victor Okoh. But wished that the Edike site could be used for the modern market that would stand the test of time.
In the cause of his inspection, Chuky Dandy spotted some errors which was subsequently corrected by the site engineers.
As at the time of the visit, a section of the market that was affected was undergoing repairs.
