A popular herbal medicine practitioner in Okpe Community, Abavo, Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, Chief Anthony Okonta, also known as, ‘ Dr Who be Who’, has appealed to the Delta State Government to inaugurate the state’s traditional medicine board, noting that the state has a lot to gain from the board.
Chief Okonta who is the Director, Who is Psychiatric Home, Abavo gave the advice in a chat with Ika Mirror during the week.
According to the Abavo born traditional medicine practitioner, a vibrant and functional traditional medicine board will help to flush out quacks in the profession. He advised that lives will continue to be endangered if the activities of quack traditional medicine practitioners are not properly checked.
Okonta who currently serves as Chairman, National Association of Nigeria Traditional Medicine Practioners (NANTMP), Delta North Chapter enumerated the functions of the State traditional medicine board to include; organizing of seminars and sensitization on the importance of herbal medicine. He added, “The Delta State Traditional Medicine Board if inaugurated will generate revenue for the state government, hence, the call for government to look inward by inaugurating the State’s Traditional Medicine Board.”
