Complaints have enveloped different quarters in Agbor, headquarters of Ika South Local Government, Delta State as Bus drivers in the ancient city,on Monday, March 22 refused to load passengers enroute Agbor to Asaba/Onitsha.

The complaints of the residents is that in the face of biting hardship following poor economic situation in the country, drivers want transport fare to be increased by 100 percent.

Meanwhile, member representing Ika South Constituency at the Delta State House of Assembly and Chairman, House Committee,on Transportation, Hon Festus Chukwuyem Okoh, also known as, Chuky Dandy without hesitation mediated on the issue as he convened an all important meeting at his Ime-Obi residence with the drivers who are operating under the umbrella group known as,Ika Drivers Association.
It was during the meeting, reports reached Chuky Dandy that bus drivers in Agbor have refused to load their vehicles except passengers agree to their new fare. Açcording to the drivers, the old transport fare from Agbor to Asaba/ Onitsha was #400 while the new transport fare is #800/#1000.

The lawmaker quickly dashed to the motor park at the Charles Street end of the Agbor/ Onitsha Express Road where he met with the drivers and advised them to suspend their action until the issue is properly addressed by the appropriate authorities.

While addressing the drivers and passengers as well as union leaders, Chuky Dandy called on them to key into the peace agenda of the state government.

He reminded them that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is from Ika Federal constituency, hence, it will not be acceptable if the reports came that there is unrest in the governor’s constituency.

He assured that their complaints will be looked into as he will hold another meeting with the leadership of the drivers
