The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Ika South LGA, Mr. Jude Onya, has directed the respective Ward Chairmen of PDP in Ika South and members of the Legislative Arm of the Ika South Local Government Council to immediately embark on a sensitization campaign in their respective Wards/Constituencies on the reality of Covid-19 pandemic.
The Party helmsman made the statement to the Ward Chairmen after a crucial meeting with the members of the LGA Working Committee of the Party in the local government area.
In the same vein, Mr. Onya recently had an interactive session with the Leader of the Ika South Legislative Arm, Hon Evans Ughe, where he gave the directive on the need for sensitization of Wards by the Councilors.
It should be recalled that the Covid-19 pandemic has assumed a disturbing dimension in it’s spread in Delta State.
From the release done by the Delta State Government as at 11.55pm on Sunday 28th June 2020, the spread of the pandemic has been recorded in 21 local government areas including Ika South LGA which has 10 confirmed Covid-19 cases.
The Party Chairman emphasized that community transmission is responsible for the current spread hence the need for the Ward Chairmen and honourable Councilors to very seriously take the message of the reality of Covid-19 down to the grassroots.
He urged the Councilors to dwell specifically on the need for members of their communities to observe the Covid-19 preventive measures and protocols
which includes the following:
1) Regular washing of hands on running water;
2) Use of alcohol-based hand sanitizer;
3) Maintenance of at least 2m social distance between persons;
4) Not allowing gathering of more than 20 persons in a place without physical distance;
5) Maintaining of personal hygiene;
6) display of bucket of water containing soap with tap affixed for use in public places like markets, stores, shops, churches, etc;
7) Compulsory wearing of Facemask once one is outside the home.
Mr. Jude Onya emphasized that following the seriousness of the issue, His Excellency, Sen. Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, the Executive Governor of Delta State has himself called on all citizens of the State to take the issue of Covid-19 pandemic seriously because it is real and it is now here with us.
“It is therefore inherent on the elected Councilors in each Ward to also carry the message to their people and this should be taken seriously and done timorously,” he said.
