Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) through her Interim Management Committee, on Monday, July 6, 2020 distributed food items to indigent persons in Ika South Local Government Area. The distributed items were: one hundred and ten 50kg bags of rice, thirty-four bags of beans, one hundred and ninety-five cartons of indomie nodules and ten gallons of oil.
The beneficiaries were drawn from the two major political parties in the local government, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and All Progressives Congress, APC.
Speaking shortly after the distribution exercise at the Ika South Local Government Secretariat in Agbor, the Ika South APC Chairman, Elder Moses Nwakor expressed gratitude to the Interim Management Committee of NDDC for the gesture. He specially thanked the IMC Executive Director, Project, Chief (Dr) Cairo Ojougboh who according to him has done greatly for his people. He pointed out that Ojougboh displayed a very mature exemplary leadership by directing that the palliative food items should be distributed to indigent persons both in PDP and APC.
He used the medium to advise Ika political leaders to emulate Ojougboh for the overall development of Ika Land. He rounded up by advising Nigerians to comply fully with the government directives on Covid-19 pandemic.
A former lawmaker and APC Chieftain in Ika South, Hon Williams Eluma, who witnessed the exercise, thanked NDDC IMC for the palliative which he said went round the twenty-five local government areas in the state. He described the acting Executive Director, Project, NDDC, Chief Dr Cairo Ojougboh for his magnanimity and sterling leadership style. He said that he is proud of Ojougboh and will continue to associate with him politically. He noted that if other Ika political leaders could toe the step of Ojougboh Ika Land will be the envy of other ethnic groups. He called on the people of the local to rally round Ojougboh for the progress and development of Ika South.
On his part, the APC youth leader in Ika South and member of the NDDC palliative committee, Mr.
Clement Ebie, expressed appreciation to Ojougboh, describing him as a selfless and great politician who has impacted positively on the lives of his people. While thanking NDDC for the palliative he thanked the Ika South Local Government Council Chairman, Hon (Barr) Victor Okoh, the APC Chairman, Ika South, Elder Moses Nwakor and all persons who made it possible for the distribution to be a success. He expressed hope that Covid-19 pandemic will soon be a thing of the past.
Physically challenged persons also benefitted from the exercise.
