It was another breakthrough for members of the local security groups in Agbor at the early hours of Sunday, September 20, 2020, as they cracked down a notorious bandit, Ekene Daniel Adetuwa, who has refused to turn a new leaf.
It could be recalled that Ekene, a local electrical engineer who hails from Akumazi community in Ika Northeast Local Government Area of Delta State and an ex-convict, was arrested six months ago at Charles Street in Agbor for stealing items such as water heater, motorcycle, phones among other items recovered in his hideout.
He was re-arrested on the above date through a team work of members of the local security groups in Agbor which include, Agbor-Gha Ihun, Delta North Security Network and the vigilante, for robing three houses among which belongs to an aged woman, of their hard earned money and other valuables.
At press time, Ekene confessed to the crime, claiming that he was pushed into commiting the act by an evil spirit.
He said, “I have promised to change, but it’s been difficult for me. Some form of evil spirits would always push me to steal. The spirit forces me to go and steal, and before I know it, I have already indulged in the act.”
Speaking further, Ekene said he embarks on the crime alone and would threatened residents with an artificial gun through their windows at wee hours to collect their money and phones.
He pleaded for pardon.
The Chairman of Agbor Gha-Ihun and Special Assistant to the Governor of Delta State on Security, Comr. Monday Kiyem, who narrated how Ekene was re-arrested, said they swung into action when they received a distress call of robbery attack at Hill Street by Isede in Agbor, pointing out that Ekene was among those terrorizing Ika land.
He also recalled that his group has on two occasions arrested Ekene, but was freed to continue his criminal act in the area, thereby appealed that appropriate authorities should ensure that Ekene faces the music of his crime squarely this time.
He concluded by reassuring their commitment to duty.
Ekene was paraded by the security groups and subsequently handed over to the police in Agbor.
