The Delta State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to breast-feeding promotion, protection and support towards attaining the 2025 global nutrition targets as the state commemorates the World Breast-feeding Week with the theme Support Breast-feeding for a Healthier Planet.
The Executive Assistant on Primary Health Care to the Delta State Governor who doubles as the Chairman of the Delta State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Mrs. Isioma Okobah, disclosed this in a radio broadcast as the State joins the world in commemorating the 2020 breastfeeding week.
Dr. Okobah who was accompanied by the Executive Director of the Agency Dr. Winful-Orieke Jude, also highlighted the benefits of breast-feeding, saying that it provides every child with the best possible start in life and reiterating that It delivers health, nutritional and emotional benefits to both children and mothers as it also forms part of a sustainable food system.
Okobah who commended the state Governor, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa for his laudable health policies towards ensuring quality health care for all Deltans, also urged institutions, organizations, families and individuals to support breast-feeding practices so as to develop the children adequately for a better and productive adulthood.
