A class one Senior Secondary School student of Frontline Group of Schools in Agbor, the headquarters of Ika South Local Government Area, Miss Hope Agboje who was among the three students that represented Delta North Senatorial District at the Delta State Talk and Quiz Competition to mark 2020 Day of the African Child on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 clinched 2nd position.
The excelling student, Miss Agboje returned home after with a brown new hp laptop and a cash prize.
Meanwhile, she was on Thursday June 18, 2020 received by the Chief Inspector of Education (C.I.E), Ika South Local Government Area, Mr. Eze Ariwojo where he poured encomium on her for making not just the local government proud but entire Ika nation.
While congratulating her for academic performances, Mr. Ariwojo stated that despite the long shutdown of school as result of the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic that Miss Agboje of Frontline Group of School had not stopped studying her books.
According to him, “Agboje came first when we conducted Talk and Quiz competition among other schools at the LGA level which qualifies her as the overall best student to represent Delta North. Without mincing words, I am impressed with her performance at the state level since I was in the competition hall at the government house Asaba.
“My advice for her is that she should keep it up by continuing to take her studies seriously. Other competitions are coming and she will continue to represent Ika South so long she passed the exams to qualify; hence win more prizes and make good names.
“This is a challenge for other students in the LGA who are staying at home without studying to refrain from such. COVID-19 is not barrier for failure of any pupil or student since we have our books at home to study. Since schools children are ask to remain at home, it is the duty of every parent to make sure that their children study their books in order to keep their memory refreshing.
“We known that children of nowadays spend more time with their phone, therefore, I am appealing that it should be use wisely especially in the area of studying since it can aid them to do better as learning now has gone digitalized.
“What played at the competition hall was show of students that are studying despite the shutdown of school”.
The C.I.E used the opportunity to appeal to communities to help them safeguard school since he began to receive reports that properties of school are been vandalized.
The Proprietor of Frontline Group of Schools, Deacon Sunny Osuhor on his part stated, “I am so excited and feeling fulfilled when I receive the news that my student, Miss Agboje who represented the Ika South and Delta North as whole in the Talk and Quiz competition marking the 2020 Day of the African Child in the state was victorious. Indeed, coming out first at the LGA and second at the state level was not easy. I give God all the glory and thanked my teachers for their efforts.
“My advice for Miss Agboje even as we celebrate her success story is that she should not relent on her oars but be determine and focus her on studies to fulfill all that God has for her in her academic pursuit. I am optimistic that with God she will win a scholarship for higher academic pursuit.
“Parents should help encourage their children to study as they remain at home to stay safe from corona virus”.
On her part, Miss Hope Agboje said she is proud to be a student of Frontline Group of School from primary, thanking the school proprietor, Deacon Osuhor and her teachers for the knowledge impacted in her. She dedicated her victory to her parent and family, while disclosing that she was victorious in the competition because she never stop reading her books irrespective of the state government stay at home order as part of the precautionary measures to curtail the spread of corona virus.
Also responding, a teacher of Frontline Group of School, Mr. Emmanuel Salvation who accompanied Agboje to the competition venue, Asaba said he never regretted the time he spent since she emerged victorious. He therefore thumbs up for Agboje for her academic excellent performance.
Continuing, Mr. Salvation stated that every 16th of June is a day set aside to remember some children who died in South African for protesting to have a better education. He said the competition is part of the activities marking the Day of the African Child in Delta State with the theme, “Access to a Child-Friendly Justice System in Africa”.
He added that it is been powered by the Ministry of Women Affairs Community and Social Development.
