In fulfillment of his dream to encourage the indigent school children, Mr. Difference Irabor, on Thursday, October 22, 2020 donated over seventy Mathematics and English Language textbooks to junior students of his alma mater, Mbiri Secondary School, Mbiri, in Ika North East Local Government Area.
Speaking to journalists, Mr. Irabor maintained that the motive of the textbook donation was borne out of the passion to encourage the indigent school children which according to him was privilege he was denied while schooling.
According to him, “Whatever effort I made to give back to my community, Mbiri was not that I am wealthy. But, it is a promise I have made to myself that the money I have; I will use it to affect lives of people, most especially, the needy for the fact that I was denied such privilege by the people who look up to for assistance.
“It is also not for personal gain, but as part of nation building of safeguarding the future of the society through molding virtuous school children that will become stakeholders of national development in future.
“So long I have what it will take me to help; I will continue to give to affect lives of our people. Through soliciting for fund from my fellow old students, we donated over seventy desks for students use. My scholarship scheme has also benefitted many students both at the secondary school and tertiary of which the parents of the beneficiaries I do not know them. I have made it a duty that yearly ten indigent students of Mbiri Secondary School will be given scholarship”.
He encouraged the beneficiaries of his good will to always thank God for being opportune and makes him proud by taking their studies seriously.
Responding, the Principal of Mbiri Secondary School, Mrs. Agatha Aduga thanked Mr. Irabor which she said had been of good assistance to the school since she assumed the head of the school January this year.
She said, “On behalf of the staff and students, I appreciate Irabor for his gesture of improving the students’ educational standard and the school. From records, Irabor graduated from the school in 1986 and his coming back for sightseeing of his alma mater was indeed blessings.
“The desks he attracted to the school are what the students now use to sit for external exams for they lack seats. Despite Irabor said he is not doing it for political gain, his efforts are indeed commendable for the fact political office holders from the community and other well-to-do people have despised the school children. We pray God to bless Irabor”.
The principal urged Mbiri people to emulate Irabor and give back to the school and the community as whole.
On his part, the President General, Mbiri Patriotic Union (MPU), Dr. John Nwachokor, thanked God for the life of Irabor who he said started from nowhere but today, is somewhere.
According to him, “Irabor’s background did not deter him to give up in life but rather, he struggled to become somebody. He is a self-made man and I am proud of him. On behalf of Mbiri monarch, His Royal Majesty, Dr. Ifeanyichukwu Aliekwe and the entire good people, I say a big thank you to our son, Irabor for your good heart”.
