BY PETER OSUHOR (fhnr)
Augustine Ego Ufua was born in Uromi, Edo State where he grew up and attended Okhuessan Primary School as well as his Secondary School education.
His grandfather was a popular and renowned traditional medicine doctor and with wide recognition in Ugboha, Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State, the entire Edo State and beyond.
Ego soon picked interest in his grandfather’s traditional medicine and joined him as an apprentice in his famous herbal home. After his apprenticeship, he started working as a herbal doctor.
Predicated on his natural interest and ability to acquire further knowledge in herbs and traditional medicine, he proceeded to India to study plant research and Therapy.
In India, he gained admission into Plant Clinic Institution, Pune in Western India where he majored in General Tradomedical Medicine, Tradopharmacology and trado Psychiatric Medicine et cetera.
Ego Ufua, on returning from India started practicing as a young traditional Doctor at Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State having registered with the State’s Traditional Medicine Board and obtained the license to operate a clinic.
The Clinic, “Ego Time Healing Wonder Plant Clinic” along Abuja Road, Agbor has treated the high and low in the country and beyond of various ailments and has provision for in and out patients.
Dr. Ego Ufua is of the Christian fold and believes in God. He has the motto of his tradomedical hospital as “we administer drugs but God heals”- Exodus 15:26. He conducts regular church services and Bible studies sessions for his patients.
Dr. Ufua does not consult any medium for diagnosis and treatment but his diagnosis is based on empirical tests.
He is versatile and exhibits a rare specialisation in various drugs and food supplements to enhance his treatment of a wide range of ailments which include but not limited to Cancer, Ulcer, Waist Pain, Typhoid, Fibroid, Malaria, Diabetes, Rheumatism, High/Low Blood Pressure, Eye Problem, Asthma, Low Sperm Count, and Tuberculosis.
It is worthy of mention that the clinic has metamorphosed to a hospital and has been so accredited by the Delta State Ministry of Health.
Ego Time Hospital has more than five departments amongst which are Department of Tradopharmacology, Department of Tradopsychiatry, Department of Orthopedics.
The wife of the hospital’s Medical Director, Mrs. Veronica Augustine Ufua who is a senior nurse in the hospital said that all the medicine/drugs administered in the hospital are produced within and they know the efficacy and reaction of each drug.
Ego Time hospital has a large number of employees, including security guards and medical personnel.
Naturally, Ego Time Hospital has a few challenges notably inadequate social amenities, rehabilitation facilities for psychiatric patients and the feeding for even the cured patients who have no place to return to.
A large number of those cured have been free of charge and reunited with their families while there are those who have been cured but have no family to be reunited with and these are in the hospital and must be fed and provided for.
Consequently, Dr. Ego is appealing to the government, good spirited individuals and philanthropist to come to the aid of the hospital and the patients.
Dr. Ego is not oblivious of the fact that many people are ignorant of the efficacy of herbal drugs and need to be enlightened on the importance of food supplement as some illnesses have defied medical therapy but that food supplement can take care of such illness. The hospital’s patients are treated through western drugs or herbs.
While Dr. Ego’s contemporaries in the tradomedical field hoard their knowledge of herbs and the formulae they use in treatment of patients, this acclaimed tradomedical doctor in addition to freely showing his staff and his interested publics the function of every herb, he runs a tradomedical school named “Ego Plant Institution” which currently has 15 students taking lectures in the institution while efforts are in progress to have the tradomedical school accredited.
Some patients, including Messrs Felix Ijeh and Joseph Egbune spoke eloquently of Ego Time Hospital, Dr. Ego’s humaneness, modesty and the efficacy of his drugs.
Though they are being treated for different ailments, they said they had been to orthodox clinics where they could not be treated. Patients in Dr. Ego Time Hospital are making passionate appeals to both the government and general public to assist the hospital because of the humanitarian work being undertaken by the hospital just as they recommended the hospital to patients who may be suffering any type of ailment to go to Ego Time Hospital for cheap, effective and urgent cure of their ailment.
