Some stakeholders and elder statesmen in Ika South local government area during the week, embarked on an inspection tour of the ongoing construction of a market at Edike Street, Agbor, headquarters of Ika South LGA.

It would be recalled that the market construction which is a brain child of the local government council led by Hon Barr Victor Okoh, suffered a slight setback some weeks ago when a section of the open stalls still under construction at the time of a heavy downpour, collapsed.
This incident drew a lot of public out lash with many citing use of substandard materials and unprofessional manpower as the cause of the mishap.

Ever since, the council has taken strident steps in addressing the issue and making reinforcement to the structures where necessary.
The foregoing prompted the inspection tour by the team of stakeholders comprising; Chief Philip Igumbor (Osague of Agbor Kingdom), Pa John Nwagimeje ( member, Delta State Advisory and Peace Building Council), Dr Emmanuel Tibi, Mr Vincent Arimoku (Chairman Ika Landlords and Landladies Association), Rear Admiral Peter Elumah rtd, Col. Godwin Eboma rtd, Chief Dr Philip Okwuada, Mr Godwin Ezedom among others.

Spokesman for the team, Chief Igumbor expressed awe and satisfaction at the quality and pace of work at the site, stating that it is indeed a lofty initiative by the council Chairman to develop a well structured market to ease trading and decongest already existing markets in the area.

In his words, “I want to appreciate the foresight of our forefathers in giving out this massive land to the government. This project is a very commendable and wonderful initiative. Converting this land into a market for our people to conduct business is what your predecessors never envisaged. I commend you and assure you that we are solidly behind you. I also urge you to ensure that quality building materials are utilized for the construction in order for the project to stand the test of time”.
