As Muslims the world over celebrated Eid-el-Kabir, a feast marked with pomp and the slaughter of rams, the Muslim community in Ika land was not left out. As usual prayers were held at their prayer ground opposite the popular CTC market, Agbor after which the symbolic slaughtering of rams was performed by the Chief Imam as sacrifice to Allah.
One of the members of the Muslim community, Alhaji Issa Alli who spoke with our reporter noted that the feast symbolized the exchange of the life of the son of Prophet Ibrahim by Allah with a ram, hence the need to commemorate the festival with the slaughtering of rams.
He however lamented the harsh economic conditions of the country which according to him has limited the ability of many Muslims to afford rams for the celebration.
Speaking on the need for peaceful coexistence in Ika land, he stated that Ika people are peaceful and accommodating and sued for the continued peaceful coexistence in Ika between the Ika people and non indigenes.
He also used the opportunity to appreciate the state government for the token of love extended to the Muslim community on the occasion of Sallah, praying Allah to uplift and strengthen the governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa and grant the grace to consolidate on his achievements in office.
