-Chuky Dandy to Ika South youths
The member representing Ika South Constituency at the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon Festus Chukwuyem Okoh, popularly known as, Chuky Dandy, has said that he is proud of the youths in his Constituency for coming out in large numbers to join their colleagues across Nigeria in the ENDSARS protests.Chuky Dandy, also known as,Pride of the youths stated this in a recent letter to youths in Ika South.
The letter which was titled :
IKA SOUTH YOUTHS:
STOP THE DESTRUCTION AND LET PEACE REIGN reads:
“Dear Ika South Youths,
My name is Hon Festus Chukwuyem Okoh, aka Chuky Dandy.
I am happy to inform and remind you that you people have over the years popularly refer to me across Ika South local government area as the Pride Of The Youths. On this note therefore, I come in peace and salute you all very warmly.
I am your humble servant that you voted for in 2019 to represent your collective interest at the Delta State House of Assembly Asaba.
I have very carefully examined the reasons behind the protesting activities of the Youths in Ika South LGA in particular and other States in Nigeria in general for some days now.
And I dare say, rather satisfactorily, that your protest which was aimed at and tagged #EndSars, given the prevailing situation across the country, is not only in order but also very well conducted.
I am proud of you all, especially the Youths in Ika South LGA for the examplary exhibition of peace in the nature and conduct of the protest that has been on in our own Ika South local government area.
However, when you take a look at what is happening in nearby Edo State and other major cities in Nigeria, the protest as an activity has been derailed and the majority of the protesters have thrown caution to the wind.
They have done this by putting up inimical acts which has today clearly defeated and call to question the major purpose of the protest.
Gory evidences and stories of the outcome of the protest in other areas awash the news media in the forms of wanton looting, stealing, unnecessary intimidation of unsuspecting persons, possession of dangerous weapons and firearms in place of placards, shooting and killing of harmless persons, vandalisation of private and government properties, razing down by fire of government institutions like Police stations, etc.
Other unacceptable acts observed during this few days of protests includes the overpowering of government personnel leading to illegal “liberation” of prisoners, setting ablaze of government-owned buildings, media houses and burning of vehicles belonging to persons who do not in any way have bearing with government or the Police, etc.
In Delta State, our Governor, His Excellency, Sen. Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa has addressed a large number of the protesters in Government House Asaba where he appealed to them to be calm and give peace a chance by putting a stop to the protests.
This is to enable Government respond to their demands as expressed during the protest.
He has today gone ahead of this promise to set up an 8-man judicial panel of enquiry to among other points, look into the issue of the brutality of the Police against citizens in Delta State.
At the Federal level, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, through the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, has also accepted all the demands of the protesters and promised to set machinery in motion at that level to address the demands of the Youths.
My dear gallant youths, you have done well and virtually the whole nation is very proud of you.
You have accomplished much in this short time and you must gain maximally from these unprecedented national achievements.
Please observe that the government has demonstrated ready acquiesces to virtually all your demands.
Note too that they have also adopted a policy of non interference with your protests.
Please never for one reason imagine that you have cowed government. It takes much more than is happening now to do so.
Secondly and very importantly, do not ever allow miscreants and strangers infiltrate into your rank and file to hijack the process and end up in derailing your objective as has been seen and done in other places.
Strangers cannot help us the way we can help ourselves. When we allow them to destroy our land and institutions, they will not be there to repair it for us as a people.
Finally, on my own part, I am working out a day soon to meet with all the youths in our local government area…Ika South L.G.A during which we shall sit down as one family to discuss this matter and take a common resolution on the way forward. Let’s therefore give peace a chance.
Thank you.
Strangers cannot help us the way we can help ourselves. When we allow them to destroy our land and institutions, they will not be there to repair it for us as a people
