While delivering the paper titled, “Leadership in Education”, Hon. Ekamagule described leadership as the capacity to establish, influence and align others towards common goal, motivating and committing them to action and making them responsible for performance.

The ES while describing genuine leader as someone who takes a stand and motivate others to join them in a noble purpose, said Abraham Lincoln, who ended slavery in the United States of America, John F. Kennedy who inspired a nation to go to the moon within a decade, Winston Churchill who led Great Britain to victory in the Second World War, Shaka the Zulu, Great Hannibal of Carthaginian and Prophet Mohammed, the founder of Islamic religion, among others, are considered as leaders.

Continuing, Hon. Ekamagule pointed out that education is paramount in the life of everyone, revealing that it is man’s means of acquiring and teaching the essential knowledge and skill. He further described educational leadership as the process of enlisting and guiding the talents and energies of teachers, pupils and parents towards achieving common educational aims. He added that the goal of educational leadership is to improve the quality of education and the education system itself.

He therefore enjoined the head teachers to carefully study the types of educational leadership to adopt the approach that will help them in administration. He noted that the key to an effective academic institution is to have a great educational leader in charge. Hon. Ekamagule equally charge the head teachers to always exhibit the qualities for effective leadership, function as a school leader, administer well and bring innovation which according to him are core duties of a leader.

Hon. Ekamagule called on the head teachers not to give up on education despite the challenges of life, assuring them that God will reward them for their hard work.

On her part, the Chairman of AOPSHON, Ika North East, Comrade Kate Isioma Onuoma commended the ES for his undiluted teaching which according to her is eye opener for them to better administer and improve teaching and learning processes.
