Concerned youths of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State have pleaded to the conscience of an elder stateman of the party, Hon. John Nwagemeje, asking him to retire from the party leadership for youths to have their space.
The group made the plea from the fall out of the protest last week wherein youths of Ika South amongst their legitimate demands, agitated for old men in politics to give way for them to make impact.
They also called on other aged leaders of the party to retire home while the party decongest for the young ones to have their place in the system.
The group spokesman, Chukwuyem Sunday, said, “we have been ascribed as future leaders and by this time of our lives we are yet to be given our place of leadership because of old men and women who have refused to leave the party structures.
“We the youths are fully ready to lead and we demand that our old father’s such as Pa John Nwagemeje amongst others to retire home for us to have our place in politics.
“Painfully, most of these old leaders are not even projecting the youth for positive development rather they systematically preach themselves, their children and even cause problems for us.”
“But now we want them to retire home not to become completely dormant, but be aside encouraging us as we take leadership positions,” he added.
Speaking further, the group of youths threatened to revote against the aged politicians in the land should they refuses to leave peacefully for the youths to grow.
