I traveled to Warri last Saturday, January 9, 2021, on the invitation by a friend who his wife put to bed recently, a beautiful baby girl, after five years of marriage.
As I alighted at the PTI Motor Park, I walked across to the other side of the road to take a cab going to Airport Road. About two metres from where I was standing, I sighted this small man beating up a lady. In anger I raced towards him. “Hay gentleman, why don’t you take it easy, I said to the guy as I held him from behind, just in time to stop him from dealing to the poor girl another ferocious slap.
Will you get your filthy hands off me”, the guy backed at me.
Gentleman, please try and be civil at least I appealed to him.
“I said get your filthy hands off me and mind your business!”.
He did barked at me again, accompanied his words with resounding back hand slap to my face. I was dazed, for several seconds. I could not see a thing. But, the minute I got my vision back I pounced on the bastard and gave him everything I got.
People had to come to separate us. The people were surprised that at my old age I can still put up a fight. I told them that I was brought up in Sapele and that I am still very young at heart. After the fracas, lover boy knelt down and apologized to me, then got into his sleek car and drove off, leaving behind a battered girl friend.
I took her to a nearby restaurant. She was shaking but, after a while, she got hold of herself and began thanking me profusely.
Thank you very much—–thank you—-she went on and on.
It’s okay, I think you have thanked me enough. I said quietly to her.
My name is Kingsley Igbedion, am a media man. What is yours?
My name is Esther; she answered wiping off tears that were threatening to betray her emotion.
I ordered for some drinks and that calmed her serves. She was relaxed enough to smile a little and that was when her beauty came out fully.
“Kingsley, now can I ever stop to thank you for saving me”, she said to me and continued, “I won’t ever forget it for no man has ever stood for me before. Once again, am truly very sorry for putting you through all that trouble.”
I looked into her eyes and smile. They were beautiful. I wish you could stop thanking me, Esther. I told her and we exchanged phone numbers.
Happy New Year to all my fans.
See you next week!
