NMA’S CORNER!
Poverty! Poverty! Poverty!!!
Can anyone who has never been poor know what poverty is?
I doubt that.
Can anyone who soaks garri a whole day know what poverty really is?
Perhaps, one begins to grasp the real meaning of poverty when one struggles really hard to have one miserable meal in 24hours.
THAT IS POVERTY!
A person begins to have a true feeling of poverty when not apart from the tattered clothes he is wearing, he has no other.
A real poor man has no roof over his head, and this is why you find him under the bridge or simply in a vast open air.
In every bargain, situation, circumstances, discussion and every event evolving within and around him, the poor man is constantly reminded of all his failure in life.
Nobody listens attentively when he makes a point, nobody accepts his opinion. So in most cases, he learns to accept that he neither has wisdom, fortune, family nor opinion.
The paupers’ lot not only affects him, but also rubs off on his child who is subject not only to hunger of the body but of the mind also. Denied normal childhood, the pauper’s child is a rocky soil which seeds find hard to germinate.
Thus, embattled both home and school, he has no option but to drop out.
THIS IS POVERTY! AND IT IS A CURSE.
Weakened by hunger, embattled by cold, poor feeding, the poor man now becomes an easy target for diseases and death.
POVERTY IS THE REAL DISEASE THAT SHORTENS LIFE!!!
