The Special Anti Robbery Squad of the Nigerian Police Force have been in the news for some time now albeit, over alleged ignoble issues. One of such instances allegedly occurred on Saturday, August 8, where a petty trader, Mr Julius Akhilemen who trades on canned foods and drinks was harassed by some SARS officials.
According to him at about 9 am on that fateful day he was holding brief for his wife at the shop who just left to attend to some house chores when about four SARS officers raided his shop. In his words, ” They just came in and began ransacking my goods and chased away my customers. I asked them what the matter was and what they were looking for, but they ignored me and went straight to my refrigerators obviously looking for something. They even searched my bag where I keep money from sales and opened my drinks and began sniffing them, as they were hell bent on finding something incriminating.
When they found nothing, they made some calls and left without any explanation for their unprofessional conduct”.
He noted that their action caused him great embarrassment and loss as some customers who came to patronize him that day had to leave even without paying for the goods they purchased. He called on all relevant authorities to call SARS operatives to order as their activities are causing great embarrassment to the Police Force and unwarranted suffering to the victims.
